Before you go
- Best time to go
- All year. Gurpurab and Vaisakhi bring large crowds, so plan extra time on those dates.
- Road and weather
- Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib are in opposite directions from Lahore. Kartarpur is north-east, through Narowal, close to the border. Nankana Sahib is west, past Sheikhupura. Each is a comfortable day trip. Seeing both in one day is possible but long, so many visitors split them over two days.
- Tolls
- Depending on the route the driver takes, you may pass motorway or road tolls. They are charged at actual cost on top of the car rate. Entry rules and any fees at the gurdwaras are set by the authorities that run them.
Two of the holiest places in Sikhism are within a day’s drive of Lahore. Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib marks the birthplace of Guru Nanak, and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur is where he spent his final years. Visitors from Pakistan and abroad travel to both, and a car with a driver makes the trips calm and simple.
Nankana Sahib
Nankana Sahib is about 85 km west of Lahore. The driver heads out past Sheikhupura and on to Nankana, around 2 hours in normal traffic. Besides Gurdwara Janam Asthan, the town has several other historic gurdwaras connected to Guru Nanak’s early life, all within a short drive of each other.

Kartarpur
Kartarpur is north-east of Lahore in Narowal district, a few kilometres from the border. The usual route runs through Narowal, about 125 km and 2.5 to 3 hours in total. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib sits in a large, well-kept complex, and visitors usually spend a few hours there.
One day or two?
Because the two are in opposite directions from Lahore, there are two ways to plan:
- Two day trips: one day for Nankana Sahib and one for Kartarpur. Relaxed, with time to stay for prayers and langar.
- One long day: leave Lahore very early for Nankana Sahib, come back past Lahore and continue to Kartarpur. It works, but expect a late return.
Our city day bookings with a driver cover standard duty hours. A long day that runs beyond them uses the overtime rate shown for each car.

Festival dates
Large gatherings take place at Nankana Sahib for Guru Nanak’s birthday (Gurpurab), usually in November, and at other Sikh festivals through the year. On those days, security is tight and roads near the gurdwaras are crowded. Book your car early, leave earlier than usual and agree a pickup point with the driver.

Documents and etiquette
- Carry your CNIC (Pakistani visitors) or passport with a valid visa (foreign visitors).
- Entry arrangements and any fees are set by the authorities that run the gurdwaras and can change. Check before you go.
- Cover your head inside the gurdwaras and remove your shoes. Head coverings are usually available at the entrance.
Choosing a car
A Toyota Corolla is comfortable for small families. A Honda BR-V seats seven, which helps when elders travel too. For yatra groups, a Toyota Hiace or coaster is the practical choice. If you are visiting from abroad, see our guide for overseas visitors for airport pickup and payments.

How outstation pricing works
Four simple rules, the same for every outstation trip. Your quote lists every item before you confirm.
Every 24 hours is one day
Outstation days are counted in 24-hour blocks from your pickup time, not by calendar date. Leave at 6 am Friday, back by 6 am Sunday: that is two days.
The outstation day rate
Trips out of Lahore use each car's outstation rate with a driver. It covers the car and the driver for every 24-hour day.
from Rs 7,500 per dayDriver night stay and food
For every night away from Lahore there is a fixed night allowance that covers the driver's stay and meals, so you never have to arrange them yourself.
from Rs 1,500 per nightFuel and tolls at actual cost
Fuel, motorway tolls (paid by M-Tag) and parking are charged at actual cost, with no mark-up. Your quote explains how they are settled.
