Van or coaster?
A Hiace van suits families, airport groups, small tours and anywhere the road gets narrow. It parks easily at homes in older neighbourhoods, fits through the lanes of a hill station and is quicker on mountain roads.

A Coaster suits big groups: school trips, office picnics, a baraat with forty guests, or a university tour to the north. Everyone travels together, which makes headcounts and timings much easier.
Two vans instead of one coaster is worth considering when a group will split up during the day, when luggage is heavy, or when part of the route is too narrow for a coaster. Send us the passenger count, the luggage and the route, and we suggest the right mix with prices.
Northern tours from Lahore
Most northern tours start on the M-2 to Islamabad. From there:
- Naran and Kaghan: the Hazara Motorway to Mansehra, then Balakot and up the Kaghan Valley. About 12 to 14 hours from Lahore by coaster with stops. Many groups break the journey in Islamabad or Abbottabad.
- Hunza: the Karakoram Highway through Besham and Chilas to Gilgit and Karimabad. A two day drive each way, with a night stop on the way.
- Skardu: the Karakoram Highway to the Skardu road junction near Jaglot, then along the Indus. Also two days each way, and better suited to Hiace vans.
- Murree and the Galiyat: a long day trip, or better, a night or two. Coasters manage the main road to Murree; some upper roads suit vans better.
The Babusar Pass between Naran and Chilas usually opens in early summer and closes with the first heavy snow in autumn. We plan routes around its status and around monsoon landslides in July and August. Our route guides for Naran and Kaghan, Hunza and Skardu have more detail.
Safety on long tours
Long tours are planned so the driver is rested and the mountain sections are driven in daylight. That means early starts from Lahore, proper stops at motorway service areas, and night halts on long routes rather than one exhausting push. We ask groups to keep to the agreed timings and not to pressure the driver to make up time on mountain roads. On the M-2, the Motorway Police helpline is 130.
Baraats and family functions
A baraat with a lot of guests moves best in vans and coasters, with the couple’s car leading. We schedule pickups from several homes, collect guests from hotels near the airport, and wait at the hall during the function. Our wedding car rental page explains convoy planning and the couple’s car.
Staff and school transport
Factories and offices use our vans and coasters for daily pick and drop on fixed routes, for example from Township and Johar Town to Kot Lakhpat, or across the Ring Road to DHA. A group tour to Naran, the way we plan it
Northern tours are the most common van and coaster booking. This is a typical first day from Lahore.
The 4 steps, start to finish
Stop 1: Before dawn
Leave Lahore early
Pickups from homes or a school gate around 4 to 5 am, so the group clears the M-2 before the day traffic.
Stop 2: M-2
Breakfast stop
Tea and breakfast at a motorway service area such as Bhera, with a proper rest for the driver.
Stop 3: Hazara Motorway
Into the hills
Past Islamabad and Abbottabad towards Mansehra and Balakot, where the road starts to climb.
Stop 4: Before dark
Arrive in Naran
About 12 to 14 hours with stops. We plan the day so the mountain section is driven in daylight.

How many people fit in a Hiace or a Coaster?
The seat count for each vehicle is in the table on this page. On long tours, fill a van or coaster to about three quarters so there is room for bags and everyone travels comfortably.
Can we take a coaster to Naran, Hunza or Skardu?
Yes, with a driver experienced on those roads. Coasters handle the Naran and Hunza roads in season. For Skardu and some side valleys we may suggest Hiace vans, which are easier on narrow sections. Roads change with weather and landslides, so we confirm conditions before departure.
Who pays for the driver's food and stay on a tour?
The driver night allowance listed for each vehicle covers his stay. Many hotels in the north have rooms for drivers; if yours does, tell us. Meals are agreed in your quote.
Can I book a van for a baraat or wedding guests?
Yes. Vans and coasters are the easiest way to move guests between homes, the hall and hotels. Our wedding car rental page explains convoy planning.
Do you do school and office trips?
Yes. Day trips to places like Lahore Safari Zoo, Jallo Park, Changa Manga or the Khewra Salt Mine, and staff picnics. For school trips we ask for a letter from the school with the itinerary.
Is fuel included?
Not in the day rates. Fuel is either paid as you go or agreed as a fixed amount in your quote. For long tours, ask for the fixed amount, so the group knows the total before it leaves.
