Before you go
- Best time to go
- All year. Summer is cool and busy, and December to February brings snow.
- Road and weather
- The motorway part is easy. The last hour climbs through hairpin bends, so slow driving and patience matter more than speed. In snow, authorities limit traffic into Murree and the Galiyat, and roads can close at short notice. Check the latest advisory before you leave, and pick an SUV for snow trips.
- Tolls
- Tolls on the M-2 and the Murree Expressway are collected at the toll plazas (M-Tag on the motorway). They are not part of the car rate and are charged at actual cost. Check the current NHA rates before you travel.
Murree is the hill station Lahore escapes to, in summer for the cool air and in winter for the snow. With a driver, it is an easy family trip: motorway most of the way, then an hour of pine forest and hairpin bends.
The drive
The first four to five hours are the same as Lahore to Islamabad on the M-2. Near Islamabad, the driver takes the Murree Expressway, which climbs steadily through the Margalla foothills to Murree. The air cools quickly, and in winter you will start seeing snow on the slopes well before town.

What to see
- Mall Road is the heart of Murree, with shops, food stalls and evening crowds.
- Patriata (New Murree) has a chairlift and cable car with views over the hills.
- Nathia Gali and Ayubia in the Galiyat are quieter and greener, with walking trails and pine forest.
- Bhurban has a golf course and wide views over the valleys.
Snow trips: what to know
Snow in Murree usually falls between December and February. It is the busiest and most delicate time to visit:
- Pick an SUV. Ground clearance and grip matter on icy roads. A Toyota Fortuner or Kia Sportage handles it far better than a small sedan.
- Follow the advisories. In heavy snow, the authorities limit how many cars can enter Murree and close roads if they become unsafe.
- Stay flexible. Do not plan a tight schedule. Leave daylight margin for the drive back down.
- Pack properly: warm layers, gloves, snacks, water, a charged power bank and medicines.

Summer and holidays
From May to August and over Eid holidays, Murree is busy. Traffic on the Expressway and Mall Road can crawl in the evenings. Leave Lahore early, arrive by afternoon, and do your sightseeing in the morning.

Choosing a car
For a family of four in summer, a Honda BR-V or Kia Sportage is comfortable and copes well with the climb. In snow season, the Toyota Fortuner is the safest choice. Bigger families and friends’ groups travel together in a Toyota Hiace. See our northern areas guide for more on choosing a car for the hills.

How outstation pricing works
Four simple rules, the same for every outstation trip. Your quote lists every item before you confirm.
Every 24 hours is one day
Outstation days are counted in 24-hour blocks from your pickup time, not by calendar date. Leave at 6 am Friday, back by 6 am Sunday: that is two days.
The outstation day rate
Trips out of Lahore use each car's outstation rate with a driver. It covers the car and the driver for every 24-hour day.
from Rs 9,500 per dayDriver night stay and food
For every night away from Lahore there is a fixed night allowance that covers the driver's stay and meals, so you never have to arrange them yourself.
from Rs 1,500 per nightFuel and tolls at actual cost
Fuel, motorway tolls (paid by M-Tag) and parking are charged at actual cost, with no mark-up. Your quote explains how they are settled.

Lahore to Murree: questions
How long is the drive from Lahore to Murree?
About 6 to 7 hours, including a stop on the M-2. Weekend and holiday traffic on the Murree Expressway, or snow in winter, can add a few hours.
Can we go to Murree in winter to see snow?
Yes, and it is beautiful, but plan carefully. Choose an SUV, keep the trip flexible, and follow the traffic advisories. In heavy snow, entry to Murree is restricted and roads can close for safety.
Can we visit Nathia Gali and Ayubia on the same trip?
Yes. The Galiyat, including Nathia Gali and Ayubia, are a short drive beyond Murree on the road towards Abbottabad. Add a day so you are not rushing on mountain roads.
How many days should we book?
Three days is the usual: a day up, a full day in Murree and the Galiyat, and a day back. Remember that outstation days are counted in 24-hour blocks from pickup.
Where does the driver stay overnight?
The driver arranges his own stay and meals, covered by the night allowance for each night away from Lahore. You do not need to book a room for him.
